HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Every year since 1987, hundreds of people gather in Hopkinsville from all over the Pennyrile area to compete in the Senior Games.
If you’re over the age of 50, and have a competitive spirit, registration is now open for the 36th Annual Pennyrile Senior Games in. Along with Christian County, the games are also open to people in Caldwell, Crittenden, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd and Trigg.
“We love hosting this event as a way for senior folks to get together and have a good time socializing with some friendly competition.” said Pam Rudd, one of the Program Coordinators and the Senior Games Director.
2020 was the only year the games had to be cancelled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On average, 300 people come out to participate every year. The competition is broken up into nine different age groups, and awards are presented to the top three of each group. There are a variety of events like cornhole, softball, bocce ball, pickleball, bowling, and a one mile walk.
Registration ends on Sept. 8, so only a few days are left to sign up. The games run from Sept. 25-27 at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex. Find more information on the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Facebook page, and register by calling 270-887-4290.
