HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Joy Closet in Hopkinsville hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning for Hope House. This new building will serve as a home dedicated to providing temporary housing during removal day for the children, workers and placement families in the foster care system.
“We are excited to be able to provide a home that will be inviting to the children that come into care, supportive to the social workers as they work tirelessly to find placement and for the placement family to have a few less things on their immediate plate,” said Heather Gray, Executive Director of Joy Closet. “We truly believe that this house is going to be built by the community and we can’t wait to see it all come together.”
Hope House believes the transition of kids being removed from everything they know to coming into the state’s custody should not happen in an office, so they are hoping to welcome in children and give them everything they need to thrive while in their care.
“The Hope House provides a unique opportunity to serve everyone impacted by foster care. More than that it allows individuals, who aren’t in a season of being able to bring friends into their home, the opportunity to serve and impact the lives of those starting their foster care journey. It’s a wonderful way to use your time and talent to serve a much-needed area in our community in a different capacity,” said Julia Roberts, the Hope House manager.
In a news release, Joy Closet expressed appreciation for Legacy Metals, LLC in getting the house built, and thanks donors and the community for support. They are still looking for financial donations, an electrician, and an outdoor plumber to help them with the project. They will be hosting a fundraiser on June 27 at Hillcrest Baptist Church at noon.
People who are interested in getting involved and volunteering can find more information on the Joy Closet website, or call 270-632-1232.
