OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During the Oak Grove City Council meeting on Tuesday, council members deliberated on several matters, including the regulation of storage and commercial vehicles and the 2024-25 fiscal budget.
Take-home commercial vehicles
During public comments, a resident of Oak Grove addressed council members, arguing against citing commercial trucks parked outside homes, noting many citizens have take-home vehicles. During discussion on the ordinance, Council member Janet Edwards prompted colleagues to consider the reasons behind city restrictions, whether for aesthetic or safety.
“Lots of cities have rules allowing those vehicles to be parked in the driveway,” said council member Edward Cook who agreed Oak Grove should follow suit.
The council voted to repeal a redundant ordinance and agreed to revisit the issue during an upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting.
2024-25 budget
During a second reading of the 2024-25 fiscal budget, Edwards asked about a $25,000 increase in the general fund and wanted several clarifications regarding funds allocated for administrative fees, and travel and training fees.
“I would like to get a breakdown of what this all is,” Edwards said. She also suggested moving several items in the budget to a different category. Mayor Jackie Oliver informed her that items cannot be moved until a finance director is hired.
The budget was approved with all council members voting yes except for Edwards, who voted no, and John Campbell, who abstained.
