HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Parents in Hopkinsville were notified last week that some bus routes were delayed and even canceled, a rare but disruptive occurrence for students. This affected routes on Sept.6 and 7.
A post from Christian County Public School’s said this was due to several drivers suddenly being out due to illness. Johanna Brown from CCPS mentioned that in her two years with the school system, she has never seen route cancelations until now. Although this seems to be an isolated incident for Christian County, it is directly related to the bus driver shortage across the country. In this particular case, the lack of “sub-drivers” is what caused issues.
“Getting drivers in the seats is what we need”, Johanna said. She encourages people looking to supplement their income to apply for bus drive positions because there is a constant need.
In the future, if drastic route changes or cancellations occur, parents should hear directly from their child’s school, and can always contact the bus garage for their school system.
