HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As new and returning students come to campus or log in for online classes, Hopkinsville Community College has dozens of resources and clubs ready for students to take advantage of in the new semester. This year is also significant since it marks 60 years since the college was established in Hopkinsville.
“This is a very special year for HCC as we celebrate our 60th anniversary,” said Hopkinsville Community College President Dr. Alissa Young. “I am excited about showcasing the successes of our students, faculty and staff, and our impact as a community partner. We will be planning events throughout the year so that the whole community can help us celebrate the legacy of HCC.”
Fall semester will kick off with Welcome Weeks between Aug. 19 and Sept. 5. Special activities are planned to help students get accustomed to campus and learn about available services, resources, and clubs while also getting acquainted with other students and faculty.
Available resources for students
“We want our students to have what they need to be successful in the classroom. We offer many services to help students out, depending on their particular needs,” said Emily Ray, the marketing and communications officer with HCC.
Free tutoring services, a food pantry, a laptop loaner program, and an emergency fund for qualifying students are all available throughout the year. There are also several clubs and organizations to help students feel connected and supported while providing education and engagement beyond the classroom. The school has a Pride Alliance, eSports Club, Music club, and dozens more covering a wide range of interests.
“We also have a Kynector on campus who can help students with health insurance applications, food insecurity, childcare assistance, and other Kentucky state benefits,” added Ray. “We encourage students to reach out to their advisor or another faculty or staff member if they need assistance.”
During Welcome Weeks, students will have a chance to explore clubs and resources further. Find more information on the Hopkinsville Community college website.
