HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With new big box stores and continued growth of small businesses in Hopkinsville, the holiday shopping season has kicked off as people flock across the city to snag a good deal.
With the grand opening of Rural King occurring just weeks ago, the lines were long on the morning of Black Friday. This resurgence of businesses in the previously empty Bradford Square Mall has brought positive, large scale economic growth to the city according to the Chamber of Commerce.
“A growing variety of businesses benefits our economy in that they each draw someone new to the area,” said Chandler Ladd with the Christian County Chamber of Commerce. “A variety of businesses allows shoppers to have unique shopping experiences. With growth, we all benefit.”
While big stores in the city and websites are offering big deals, small and locally owned businesses are also looking for continued support this holiday season. Visit Hopkinsville prides themselves on stocking their gift shop shelves with locally sourced items that are unique to the area and encourage people to come and shop and explore other stores in Hoptown.
“By shopping local, you’re not just buying a gift, you’re supporting the dreams of local entrepreneurs and contributing to the vibrant economy of Hopkinsville,” said Amy Rogers, Executive Director of Visit Hopkinsville.
She also told Christian County Now that during their Shop Local event on Saturday they will be selling limited-edition advent boxes containing a curated selection of goodies from local favorites like Ferrell’s, Milkweed, local distilleries, breweries, Batter Capital, and a nod to hardworking farmers. Rogers continued to encourage people to check out local businesses and eateries on Nov. 30 during Shop Small Saturdays, with several businesses hosting special events and deals.
“We encourage our community to get out and support your neighbors, friends and other community members by shopping and eating in our area not just this weekend, but every day,” added Ladd. “Even a simple interaction on social media with a local business can help them be successful.”
