Updated 11:07 a.m.: Christian County Public Schools is utilizing an NTI Day for Monday, Jan. 6, and students will not report to school campuses.

Students should complete the first day of their NTI assignments remotely and parents can reach out to their child’s teacher for directions or assistance, said a statement from CCPS. Inspire Early Learning Academy will also be closed tomorrow.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Winter Weather Advisory for Christian County has been extended through 6 a.m. on Jan. 6 as mixed precipitation continues to come through the area.

Due to accumulations of ice, communities in and around Hopkinsville are being affected by power outages. Pennyrile Electric shared that their members are being impacted, and crews were dispatched Sunday morning to restore power. Hopkinsville Electric System customers are also experiencing outages. They are encouraging people to contact them to report downed powerlines or broken poles at 887-4219 or on Facebook.

How are the roads? The Hopkinsville Police Department is warning the public about black ice on the roadways, with Oak Grove Police Department also confirming that slick spots have been reported by drivers. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 mobilized Sunday morning to apply salt to state highways. In a news release, KYTC is asking people out on the roads to drive with caution and give treatment vehicles plenty of space while they salt the roads.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says the majority of sleet came through early in the day, but rain is expected to last throughout Sunday with possible snow and more freezing rain overnight. No more accumulation is expected going into Monday. People can expect wind gusts up to 25 mph at the beginning of the week, with temperatures dropping to the 20s and teens overnight.
