HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Showbox Theatre in Hopkinsville has reopened its doors after a temporary closure this weekend due to flooding from severe weather moving through the area. General Manager Madyson Pollock reported that two out of the five theaters are currently submerged in water.
The Prague and Lancaster theatres are severely affected, with water reaching up to the seats and movie screens. The full extent of the damage is unknown until the water levels have a chance to recede.
“We are having to wait until the water slowly levels down outside of our building in order to work on lowering the levels of the water inside of the Prague and Lancaster theater,” Pollock told Christian County Now. “However, we are fully open, and people are able to come and see a movie if they would like,” she added.
All of the other theatres in the building remain in perfect condition and have been untouched by water. Pollock expressed hope the water will be cleared quickly to they can continue to provide the community with the entertainment it needs.
“The community has already been very understanding of our circumstances. We apologize to our customers who we had to turn away from movies playing in those theaters,” she added.
