HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Winter Storm Watch for Christian County has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning by the National Weather Service as snow is expected to cover the region Tuesday night. The warning will in effect until 9 a.m. on Feb. 19.

Along with up to six inches of snow predicted, temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits and teens overnight throughout the week. In response, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army is anticipating opening their White Flag shelter. This special protocol allows the shelter to extend their normal capacity, offering a safe, warm environment for those in need to ensure that no one has to endure the freezing weather without shelter.

Their White Flag shelter at 701 South Clay Street will be open each day the temperature drops below 25 degrees. Individuals in need of shelter can check in at the front desk. For questions or additional information, please contact their Social Service Department at 270-885-9633.

“We can always use financial contributions to help sustain the additional shelter capacity during extreme weather events,” said Eric Short with the Salvation Army in Hopkinsville.

Donations can be made online at SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org, or mailed to The Salvation Army, PO Box 427, Hopkinsville, Kentucky 42241. They also have a need for additional volunteers in their soup kitchen. People interested in volunteering can call 270-885-9633.
