PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A horse has died after being caught in floodwaters early Wednesday morning in Pembroke.
Pembroke Fire Department initially responded to a call of a horse and buggy caught in the water on Pruitt Lane, driven by individuals from the Amish community. When crews arrived, they confirmed the occupants of the buggy were able to get out of the water safely, but the horse had not made it.
The fire department is warning residents to avoid Pruitt Lane as water has risen even more from the snow and the road is impassible. The Amish have used some fencing materials to block the road in hopes this will stop people from attempting to cross the water.
This tragedy comes just a day after a member of the Amish community assisted in flood rescues in Pembroke at the same location by using two horses to pull two cars out of the water.
