HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Thousands of people in Christian County and surrounding counties are without power Friday morning due to a TVA transmission line failure.
With the day starting out with extremely cold temperatures in the teens, the Christian County Fiscal Court has shared that the Christian County Senior Center in Hopkinsville at 1402 West Seventh Street has opened as a warming center for anyone who has been affected by the outage.
Around 8 a.m. this morning, Pennyrile Electric recognized the issue, with the outage stemming from their Cadiz substation, which includes several other substations caused by a TVA transmission line being out. They estimate around 12,000 of their customers are affected in multiple counties.
“TVA has found where the transmission line is down and will be working to get it back up and going,” said a public statement from Pennyrile Electric around 8:30 a.m. “In the meantime, we are going to back feed Cerulean and Rockcastle substations. We will also try and restore power to a few circuits in the Cadiz substation. Once these steps have been done, we will do an update on the remaining members without power.”
Areas in western Christian County are affected by the outage, with Trigg and Caldwell County significantly impacted as well. They will not be able to restore power to everyone until the TVA transmission line is repaired.
