OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As the population in and around Oak Grove grows, the Economic Development Committee is working on efforts to recruit new businesses.
During the EDC meeting on March 25, Public Works Director Brian Ahart shared a list of businesses with the rest of the committee. “The list is a number of businesses we have sent letters to that might consider Oak Grove as a potential location. It contains restaurants, retail, automotive and other types of businesses we feel would be beneficial to Oak Grove and its residents.”
Ahart told Christian County Now the list was generated from many different sources. “Things we like to things we leave town for. If a person has to leave town to make a purchase, odds are they will spend more money while they are there, which takes away from Oak Grove businesses.”

While the list hasn’t been released, some new businesses have already been announced. “We know that Buc-ee’s is coming, along with a cannabis dispensary. We are also getting a new hotel on the corner of Tuckaway and Claire Avenue that we are excited about,” Ahart said. Buc-ee’s is expected to open in June or July.
In addition, Oak Grove is expecting a Starbucks, Dollar General Market and a car auction lot, committee member Janet Edwards told Christian County Now.
Though activity so far has been slow, the committee is remaining positive. “We haven’t heard from anyone on the list as of yet, but we are not giving up hope!” Ahart said
“I’m excited about the new businesses,” Edwards said. “These are things people have requested, and we have been lucky to get them. … The more businesses that come in, the more attractive Oak Grove will be which could, potentially, lead to more homes being built and more people making Oak Grove their home.”
