HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County students got to see their design on a Hopkinsville Fire Department helmet after winning the design-a-shield contest.

Payton Rogers from HFD reports they received over 75 entries for the contest. The Hopkinsville firefighters selected their top five favorites, and social media got to pick the overall winner.

The overall winner is Abigail Abrams, a third grader from Trigg County Primary. The other winners in the top five are Eli Gilliland from Millbrooke Elementary, Rhyder Dowse from UHA, Ellia Adams from UHA, and Audrey Baehring from South Christian Elementary.

The contest began to help raise awareness about National Fire Prevention Month in October. Elementary school students across the county could submit their designs for a chance to win. Fire Chief Futrell and the fire prevention team visited all the students to present them with their custom shields.
