CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian Count Fiscal Court approved a bid for updates at the Alhambra Theater and moved forward with pursing a grant that will dispose of debris in waterways from last year’s tornado.

Magistrates accepted a Debris Removal and Clean Up Grant that would go to Christian County Emergency Managment. This grant would assist in funding debris removal to clean up creeks and riverbeds. The bulk of the debris is a result of the May 2024 tornado. This process will mitigate flooding, especially near bridges.

CCEM Director Randy Graham stated that the entire project will cost around $400,000, and the grant will cover 75% of that price tag. He added that this will be a lengthy process as they acquire easements and develop a bid packet for the work, “It’s still going to be a while before we are actually out there working.”

Additionally, the magistrates accepted a bid for work to upgrade the audio system at the historic Alhambra Theater in downtown Hopkinsville. Two bids were submitted for the project, with the fiscal court approving a bid from Music Central for just over $100,000.

Utilizing funding allocated from the county’s transient room tax in the new fiscal year’s budget, Christian County will be covering $50,000 for the project. To accommodate the renovations, the theater will be closed the last two weeks of July pending the arrival of the necessary equipment.
