HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 41-year-old woman is being charged after several dogs and puppies were found on her property without proper shelter.
On July 15 around 8 a.m. Christian County Animal Control was dispatched to Koffman Drive in reference to an owner surrender involving 13 dogs. A citation from the Hopkinsville Police Department says the dog owner had previously been cited at her former address for exceeding the city ordinance limit of dogs, and for allowing her dogs to run at large. At that time, four dogs were removed from her property.
Tuesday morning, four adult dogs and nine puppies were found in her possession on Koffman Drive, none of which had adequate shelter. The woman agreed to surrender the animals.
“These poor pups were discovered crammed into a tiny filthy 3×8 puppy pen, with a piece of wood and weights on top, effectively trapping them,” said a public statement from Mikaela’s Mutt Motel who took in the dogs. “It was a gruesome scene that led to immediate animal cruelty charges and their removal.”
She is currently being charged with 13 counts of cruelty to animals for failing to provide shelter, as well as four counts of failure to vaccinate dogs against rabies.
Find information on how to adopt and support these dogs on the Mikaela’s Mutt Motel Facebook page.
