HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Human Rights Commission in Hopkinsville will once again be hosting a community march and program march in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January.
“I think it’s important that we never forget where we’ve come from, not only as a nation, but also as a community,” said HRC Executive Director Raychel Farmer. “While we’re thankful for the progress made because of leaders like Dr. King, we are still hopeful for a better and brighter future for everyone, and for generations to come.”
People are invited to join the start of the march at Freedom Elementary School at 9 a.m. on Jan. 19. In past years, attendance has varied at between 150-200 people. The group will travel down the roadway, ending at the auditorium at Hopkinsville Community College. A school challenge will be held, where students can check in receive awards for high participation.
The march will occur weather permitting. In previous years only the program was held due to extreme cold temperatures.
