Updated 8:30 a.m.: The Christian County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the teenager died as a result of his injuries overnight.

CROFTON COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An accidental shooting on Friday has left a teenager in Crofton with serious injuries from a gunshot wound.

On Jan. 2 around 4:45 p.m., Hopkinsville Fire/EMS responded to an area near the 14000 block of Grapevine Road in Crofton after receiving a call about a gunshot, according to Payton Rogers with HFD. Emergency crews located a 16-year-old male who had suffered from a single gunshot wound to his head. Initial reports suggest the injury was related to a hunting accident.

Air medical was requested to assist the patient, but it was unable to fly to do developing icy conditions. The teenager was transported via ambulance to Jennie Stuart Health in Hopkinsville, and was later taken to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee for further treatment.

The identity and current condition of the teenager has not been released.
