HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Driver License Office has moved out of its downtown South Main Street location right before the state rolls out a new system.
Beginning Monday, April 20, the Hopkinsville office will move to its new location at 700 B Hammond Drive. The office is located in the shopping plaza near Hammond Drive and Old Clarksville Pike. A notice says the new location will offer expanded lobby space, more parking spots, and additional space for driver testing conducted by the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
In addition to this new location, a brand-new system for Kentuckians to get their license is coming this summer, with Gov. Andy Beshear announcing what these changes will look like across the commonwealth and in Christian County.
Changes to expect
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC)’s new system, known as the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing (KINDL), is scheduled to launch Monday, June 8. This is a modernized driver licensing system and online portal that will provide online services that help reduce wait times at regional offices and minimize paperwork, according to a news release from Beshear.
The improved system will replace the current, nearly 40-year-old system and allow Kentuckians to create accounts through the new portal, myDrive, that will enable them to pre-apply for a license, permit or ID, request a card replacement, check their current license standing, and more.

Beshear said that since spring of 2025, average walk-in wait times at driver licensing regional offices have decreased from 49 to 12 minutes, and average appointment wait times have decreased from 25 to 10 minutes. He says this new system will help Team Kentucky build on this progress.
According to the news release, the new system will streamline licensing for commercial drivers too, allowing medical certificates to be accepted directly from approved medical providers, cutting out the middle step of needing to manually submit results yourself to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) National Registry.
Things to know about changes, myDrive account
Kentuckians due to renew in June are strongly encouraged to visit a Driver Licensing Regional Office before June 4, as all offices will close on June 4-5 and hours of operation will be adjusted from June 8–18 for the system migration.
Starting June 8, all online licensing services, including those for commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders, will require a myDrive account. Account holders can enjoy the following new services:
- Pre-apply for a license, permit or ID to save time during an in-person visit to request a card for the first time or to renew a license.
- Request a card replacement
- Change their address
- Check their current license standing (i.e. suspended) and production status of their card
- View individual licensing communications sent by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
- An account will also be needed to renew your license online, register an emergency contact, sign up for license expiration reminders, or pay reinstatement fees. More details on how to set up an account will be shared as the rollout approaches.
