HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Overnight on Wednesday a foot pursuit was initiated by police, leading to an arrest and the discovery of a loaded firearm.
Just before 1 a.m. on May 27, an officer with the Hopkinsville Police Department observed a male suspect wearing a black ski mask loitering in the parking lot of Pennyrile Electric, which was closed at the time. An arrest report from HPD says the suspect initially walked away but eventually spoke with the officer giving false identifying information.
The suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Cordell Brown of Hopkinsville, then fled on foot down Billy Flynn Boulevard. According to HPD, the officer drew his handgun after he saw the suspect reaching for his waistband.
Police followed Brown, who had jumped a barbed wire fence by the Pennyrile Electric Company. A perimeter was established and he was located near a backyard on Short 19th Street by additional officers, a K9 unit and deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. A Glock 17 was located in the area, which HPD said was discarded by the suspect during the pursuit. The gun had an extended magazine and one round in the chamber.
Brown was arrested and is being charged with fleeing police, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with evidence and criminal trespassing.
