OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Crime Stoppers tip led the arrest of a suspect in a homicide investigation who allegedly shot and killed a man in Oak Grove last year.

In December of 2025, a warrant was issued by the Oak Grove Police Department for the arrest of 28-year-old Avery Bates of Clarksville, Tennessee. On Nov. 23 at around 3 a.m. officers responded to a shooting on Fort Campbell Boulevard that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Jaylin Glenn. Through an investigation, Oak Grove PD determined that Bates fired the fatal shot.

Over six months later, the Clarksville Police Department in Tennessee has successfully located and arrested Bates. CPD’s Intelligence Unit recently received several tips through Clarksville Crime Stoppers indicating that he was staying at a residence on Faye Drive, according to a news release. Bates was taken into custody on June 3 without incident.

“This case is a strong reminder of how important community tips can be,” said CPD in a news release. “Information provided through Crime Stoppers can directly assist investigations and help law enforcement safely apprehend dangerous individuals. Every tip received is taken seriously and carefully reviewed by the Intelligence Unit and Investigators.”

Bates was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and is currently awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
