Multi-day Flood Watch issued for Christian County ahead of forecasted storms

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Christian County through early on Sunday.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As storms are forecasted to come through Christian County this week, the National Weather Service has preemptively issued a Flood Watch that will be in effect from July 9 at 1 p.m. through July 12 at 1 a.m.

A statement from the NWS in Paducah says repeat rounds of thunderstorms over the next few days will increase the threat for flooding. The possibility of storms sitting in the same area bring an elevated risk for flooding.

Scattered storms are expected starting Wednesday night and may occur on and off through Saturday. Damaging winds up to 60 mph are the main threat with rounds of heavy rainfall. A weather outlook indicates that a large portion of Christian County is at a marginal risk for severe storms.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. High near 89. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Friday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 87. West southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
