HOPKINSVILLE, KY – On Aug. 12 Kentucky State Police, Post 7 Richmond, received information regarding the whereabouts of Jason Patterson, 55, who was wanted in Christian County in connection with a 2013 murder. KSP detectives confirmed Patterson was wanted on a Christian County District Court warrant for murder in connection with the death of Faye Springfield on July 30, 2013.
Just before 9:30 a.m. on August 14, Kentucky State Police Special Response Team members, along with personnel from KSP Post 7, KSP Aviation, KSP Canine, KSP Hazardous Devices and KSP DESI Interdiction responded to a residence on Polly’s Bend Road in Garrard County in an attempt to apprehend Patterson.
After lengthy negotiations, Patterson refused to cooperate and fired a weapon at law enforcement before fleeing into a wooded area. After a lengthy search, Patterson was located by KSP aircraft personnel, two rope technicians from USAR TF-1 and KSP Special Response Team members on a cliffside, where he appeared to have sustained injuries from an approximate 40-foot fall.
Patterson was treated for his injuries by KSP personnel before being hoisted from the area using a rope system. He was transported by Garrard County EMS to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital for further treatment.
Patterson remains in the custody of the Kentucky State Police while receiving medical treatment. Upon his release, he will be served with the outstanding murder warrant and a Theft by Unlawful Taking warrant and lodged in jail.
The Garrard County Sheriff’s Office assisted Kentucky State Police during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
