CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Multiple fires broke out along Interstate 24 in Christian County Monday afternoon, extending between mile markers 81 and 84.
The Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded with a total of three fires reported. According to Fire Chief Bill Johnson, each fire was approximately 75 feet in size with just under an acre of land impacted. Luckily, fire crews were able to contain the flames to the roadside, with no extension into the surrounding woodland area.
Johnson told Christian County Now that the cause of the fires is unknown.
Pembroke and Herndon Fire Departments provided mutual aid with brush trucks. The incident was fully extinguished and under control within 20 minutes. The fires come as Christian County remains under a heat advisory that extends over five days, with the heat index staying in the triple digits.
