HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – 38 students were onboard a Christian County Public School bus when it backed into another car on Thursday.
According to a collision report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the accident happened after school on Sept. 3 around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Bedford Court. The bus driver was attempting to “reverse westbound onto Lexington Avenue” and told police they did not see the car behind them. The report notes that students began screaming, and the driver told officers, “But they are always screaming.”
The driver of the other vehicle, a Chrysler Pacifica, was stopped behind the bus before the accident and honked while attempting to reverse out of the way but could not avoid the impact.
The bus sustained minor damage to its rear bumper, and the other vehicle sustained severe damage to its front-end, according to the report. It listed human factors of the collision as “improper backing” and “misjudged clearance.”
No injuries were reported by the drivers or the students on board.
