HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby has announced that he is resigning from his position and will serve his last day on Oct. 11.
During a Facebook Live on Sept. 15, Newby confirmed this news and addressed rumors that he was being forced out or fired. He said, “I received a good opportunity to take the next step up to further my career. Sorry to disappoint all you haters that wish me ill, but this is a good thing for me.”
According to Newby, no replacement for the position has been chosen at this time. With the general election taking place in November, it will be up to the newly elected Mayor of Hopkinsville to choose a new chief of police. An interim may be selected in the meantime.
He clarified that any information being shared on social media about potential replacements are just rumors and should be given no merit. In regard to his time at the department he said, “Everything that I did is because I felt it was best for this department and our community.”
Having served as the Chief of Police since 2023, Newby has been in law enforcement for over 20 years. This career came out of his past service with the Marine Corps. Chief Newby has spent most of his career in Hopkinsville, having worked for the Kentucky State Police, serving as a patrolman and working alongside Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond for four years as his chief deputy.
“I think I’m leaving the department in better shape than when I got here…I hope that the next chief can say the same thing,” Newby added during the live video. He did not share details about the new position at this time.
