HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 General Election in Christian County is just a couple of weeks away. Residents who are not already registered or need to change their address are able to do so until Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
During the Primary Election in May, less than 8,000 ballots were cast making up around 16% of registered voters. This key election resulted in the current Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight losing the Republican nomination, along with the re-election of Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond. Kentucky primaries are “closed” elections, meaning voters were only able to cast a ballot for their registered party.
People who are 17-year-old currently but will be of legal voting age by the time the election approaches are still able to register to vote. For those who are registered to vote in Kentucky but are unable to vote in their precinct on Election Day, such as college students or military, absentee ballots can be requested.
