HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Three people were charged with animal cruelty after several animals being boarded were found covered in feces with no access to water.

Animal Control and officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department conducted a search warrant of a commercial building located at 1013 Skyline Drive on the afternoon of Oct. 21. According to a citation from HPD, 10 dogs were found the be residing in the facility for training, boarding and personal purposes in “inadequate conditions.” Public Information Officer Justin Rios said the warrant was executed for a business called Riverbend Canine Training.

HPD said there was no water in any of the kennels, and most dogs were standing in their own urine and feces. Some of the dogs were coated in their own waste and appeared underweight and a few of the dogs were housed in spaces that were too small for their size. Officers noted that dogs immediately received water and acted as if they were very thirsty.

Three of the dogs were owned by one of the suspects, and all of the other dogs at the location will now be returned to their owners or will be housed at the Christian County Animal Shelter until their owners can come retrieve them, according to HPD.

As a result of the search warrant, a Hopkinsville man was cited by HPD for cruelty to animals in the second degree. Two other individuals were cited for cruelty to animals by complicity. All three received court dates and were not placed under arrest.
