HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At just 25 years old, upcoming musician Caleb Lake has played his music all over Hopkinsville and is an award nominated artist. He has also performed at the famous Bluebird Café in music city Nashville, and experience that he recalls as the favorite place he’s ever played.

Lake was born in Bowling Green but was raised in the small town of Gracey in Christian County. Growing up, his parents told him he didn’t sound good when he sang due to his very thick country accent. He jokingly said he purposefully tried to get rid of the accent after that.

Lake began in his school choir in fifth grade, and his passion for singing continued as he attended the Kentucky Governors School for the Arts. During his time in college, Lake played as many gigs as he could. At the time, Lake wanted to be a songwriter, but never felt he was too good at it. His inspiration for song writing came from musicians like Led Zeppelin, Blind Willie Johnson, and Jason Isbell who has helped write songs like “Cover Me Up” for country star Morgan Wallen.

“I’m not a huge country fan so I try to keep my inspiration from the blues and rock genres,” Lake told Christian County Now.

Music City ties

Recently, Caleb was selected as one of two winners for the Nashville Songwriters Association International where he will perform at the Temple Theatre in Portland, Tennessee on Feb. 23.

“If I win that, I get to perform at The Bluebird again,” Lake said. “It was an amazing experience to perform there, and I look forward to the chance.”

Although Lake doesn’t have aspirations to be famous, he wants to be able to live off making music and writing songs. Currently, Lake is recording more songs and focusing on releasing singles as it gives him more creative freedom. His newest single is called Midnight in Memphis which can be found on Spotify.
