HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Established in 2007, the downtown farmers market on the corner of 9th and Main Street is gearing up for its return on May 2.
While some familiar vendors are set to return, there have been some retirements. Laura Faulkner of Community and Development Service says they are currently undergoing recruitment for a few more produce vendors as well as several handcrafted vendors.
Dubbed as the heart of downtown, the farmers market holds profound significance in Christian County, paying homage to its agriculture roots, according to Faulkner.
This year, the market will be open every Thursday from 4-7 p.m. until October 10. There will be local, fresh produce, and handcrafted products. During the season, visitors can also anticipate encountering baby goats and other farm animals.
“As a Kentucky Proud Market, we only feature Kentucky grown or handmade items,” Faulkner said.
The market is also known for its events such as the Farm to Table Dinner. This year, the dinner will be held on September 27. Tickets will go on sale in September and as one of the largest market events, Faulkner said it is sure to sell out.
Faulkner says CDS has planned additional pop-up events that will be announced on the farmers market Facebook and Instagram as the season moves forward. Some events include a bike night with smoothie samples, and a kids night with agriculture themed activities.
