OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The 16th Annual Butterfly Festival is returning to Oak Grove on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the War Memorial Walking Trail, 101 Walter Garrett Lane. Expect a mesmerizing sight as over 2,000 butterflies are set to be released into the air.

“We are excited to celebrate the 16th year of the Butterfly Festival,” said Traci Cunningham, Executive Director of Oak Grove Tourism. “This festival not only highlights the beauty and importance of butterflies but also brings our community together in a meaningful and enjoyable way.”

The festival has become a cherished tradition in Oak Grove, drawing thousands of nature enthusiasts, families, and butterfly lovers from near and far. This year’s festival promises to be bigger than ever, with a wide array of activities and attractions for all ages, according to Oak Grove Tourism.

Some highlights of the festival include:

  • Butterfly Release: Witness the breathtaking spectacle of over 2,000 butterflies taking flight in a mass release. This awe-inspiring event will occur at 4 p.m.
  • Educational: Learn about butterfly habitats, migration patterns, and conservation efforts from leading experts in the field with the Christian County Master Gardeners.
  • Butterfly Garden: Explore the stunning butterfly garden, meticulously designed to attract, and support various butterfly species.
  • Butterfly House: Up-close encounters surrounded by hundreds of live butterflies.
  • Kids’ Corner: Fun and educational activities for children including face painting, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, train rides, a balloon artist, bubble zone and zipline.
