OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – James Lawson and Henry Ayala, Goodyear Tire and Service employees in Oak Grove, were awarded the Civilian Lifesaving Award by Police Chief Dennis Cunningham at the city council meeting Tuesday night.

On July 30, 2024, Oak Grove Police officers were dispatched to the Pilot truck stop on Pembroke Oak Grove Road after a stabbing occurred in the semi-truck parking lot around 9:45 a.m. The victim had several deep cuts in his hands and arms and climbed out of the truck where he was stabbed, crawling over to the Goodyear Service Center in the same parking lot. Employees noticed the victim in distress and tended to him while he was losing a lot of blood.

During this time, the victim was drifting in and out of consciousness, according to Cunningham. After EMS arrived on scene, the victim was air evacuated to a hospital in Nashville. It was later discovered that the man was stabbed by his co-driver after an argument.

“According to EMS and hospital personnel, the victim would not have survived the assault without the employees of the Good Year Service Center,” said Chief Cunningham. “They controlled the loss of blood and provided psychological first aid, so it is my pleasure and honor to give them the Civilian Lifesaving Award.”

Lawson, one of the two employees on scene, was in attendance to accept the award.
