OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – People counting down the days until they can grab their beaver nuggets and daily brisket sandwiches may have to wait longer than anticipated, with the new Buc-ee’s in Oak Grove likely not opening until 2029.
When the announcement first came in September of 2024, a project coordinator who visited the Oak Grove City Council initially anticipated the groundbreaking would occur before the end of 2025. That was later pushed to early 2026. While there is still no word on a groundbreaking date, the Buc-ee’s website says it is anticipated to be opened in 2029.

A nearby location across the state line in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is estimated to open in 2026, far before Oak Grove. Other locations in Ocala, Florida and West Memphis, Arkansas are both expected in 2029 as well, according to the website. It also discloses that these dates are subject to change.
Other developments in area, infrastructure changes
Why will it take five years to complete this development after the announcement? This City of Oak Grove is making significant infrastructure changes to ensure the city can handle the development.
Right now, they are in the process of planning and creating nearby stormwater basins to combat flooding, with the Oak Grove Public Works department recently sharing details of that work. Simultaneously, funding is being sorted for a major water line expansion and the creation of a new water tower.
To accommodate an influx in traffic, this process also includes adjusting roads off of Exit 89, and expanding a nearby bridge to accommodate the development.
Growth is still sprouting near the future Buc-ee’s site in the meantime. Also off of Exit 89 is the future location of a multi-acre car auction that has already started construction. Christian County’s only legal medical cannabis dispensary also recently opened in the same area.
