HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Liberty Street overnight. Four children and an adult were able to escape the home before firefighters arrived.
HFD reports that around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, two stations arrived at the 100 block of Liberty Street. Crews on the scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof. According to Payton Rogers with the fire department, all occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate with no injuries reported. The department credits working smoke detectors for allowing everyone to evacuate in time.
Due to the unusual layout of the home, crews remained on the scene for two hours after the fire was put out to conduct overhaul operations. Extensive damage to the house leaves the current residents displaced. According to HFD, the cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation.
