HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville has entered into a grant agreement with Kitchen Food Company Limited, an Australian industry planning to expand into the city. The ordinance presented by the Hopkinsville City Council during a special called meeting on Nov. 26 authorized the mayor to sign the agreement in the amount of $4.5 million for the purpose of paying permissible expenditures of the project.

The grant states that Kitchen Food Company Limited desires to acquire, construct, install, and equip an approximately 100,000 square foot manufacturing plant on Frank Yost Lane, near Siemer Milling and Krusteaz. It goes on to say that the city has determined that the benefits to be achieved by the grant will result in economic development, increased employment, growth of industry and commerce, and increased occupational license fees and tax revenues.

Ahead of the vote, the council briefly moved into a closed session. The ordinance allowing the mayor to sign the grant agreement passed with councilmembers Jason Bell, Bruce Smiley, Amy Craig, Travis Martin, Doug Wilcox, Robert Meek, and Steve Keel voting yes. Against the ordinance was Matthew Handy, Chuck Crabtree, and Jamie Lienberger.

The industry in question is based in Australia, that feeds families nationwide.
