HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An overnight house fire on East 13th Street was determined to be caused by a heater located in the home’s crawl space.

Five children and one adult were able to escape the home unharmed when the fire began around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to the Hopkinsville Fire Department. Firefighters were also able to rescue a dog from the home.

Dense smoke was coming out of the roof when crews arrived. It took four stations several hours to fully extinguish the fire.

This is the third house fire in Hopkinsville this week where a heating system has been the cause. Wednesday a house fire triggered by a space heater occurred on Southwind Drive, and Tuesday crews fought a house fire on Seminole Avenue caused by an electric fireplace.
