HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Several kittens did not survive a raging structure fire in Hopkinsville Friday night, with firefighters able to save one kitten and rabbit while battling the flames.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 3, Hopkinsville firefighters were dispatched to a residence near the corner of West Riverwood Drive and Marietta Drive. A glow from the fire could be seen in the sky in the surrounding area, according to HFD.

Additional assistance was requested, and emergency crews found an attached garage that was fully engulfed in fire. Three fire trucks and 12 firefighters were able to control the scene within 35 minutes. HFD said no occupants or firefighters were injured, and they managed to save a pet rabbit and a small kitten. However, five other kittens did not survive.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
