FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A group of Fort Campbell soldiers were welcomed home by family members and volunteers, as they made their way home on Sept. 26.

Director of the Christian County Military Affairs Committee Shannon Lane told Christian County Now that just over 60 soldiers came in during the very early morning hours and were able to reunite with their families. These “Strike” soldiers were part of a regular rotation of forces in Europe.

Volunteers with the MAC set up during homecomings and deployments, waving soldiers off at the airport and shaking their hands upon their return. The organization makes sure that those who are coming and going, along with family members, have the emotional support they need along with snacks to keep spirits high.

This homecoming is one of many that will be occurring in the near future, with Lane sharing that the MAC is getting prepared to welcome upward of 4,000 soldiers in the next few months who are currently posted across the world.

With the unpredictability of flights and the confidentially around return dates, Lane added that he and his volunteers are on call 24 hours a day until they are all back saying, “Our lives are on pause, but we are always happy to be there.”
