OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Thoroughbred Auto Auction is expanding into Oak Grove, breaking ground on their large tract of property on Dec. 15. Located off of Walter Garrett Lane by exit 89, this will be their third auction location and their first in Kentucky.
Thoroughbred is a “dealer only” auction that runs upward of 300 cars a week, with auctions once a week at their existing locations. The owner, Larry Sea, was joined by his son, staff members, and Oak Grove officials during the groundbreaking as everyone signed a ceremonial shovel. Sea publicly thanked Oak Grove Public Works Director Brian Ahart for being accommodating and helpful during the process after purchasing the land.

“I’m from Kentucky, and we just needed some room for growth…we are really excited about coming,” Sea told Christian County Now. He currently has a Jackson location that has been open for 15 years, having expanded to Clarksville six years ago.
Thoroughbred Auto Auction currently employs just over 30 team members, with that number expected to rise to over 50 once the Oak Grove location gets going. He said this new construction spanning over nine acres of land will be double the size of their Clarksville location, with construction including an office building, multiple bays for auctions, and a lot of blacktop coverage with a fence surrounding it.
He is hoping that they will be open by October of 2026. This new construction is also near where Oak Grove’s Buc-ee’s location will be, which is estimated to break ground in early 2026.
