HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – This year’s Juneteeth event in Hopkinsville is titled Celebration of Freedom, presented by The Divine 9. Festivities will be at the Boys & Girls Club on Walnut Street between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

People can expect lots of vendors, food, a kid’s area, and games with a spades tournament happening throughout the day. Dr. Gerald Smith, who is an author and professor of history at the University of Kentucky, will be speaking at 2 p.m.

New this year is an African fashion show where people will display their African culture and style on stage. The fashion show will have men, women, and kids three years old and up participating.

In conjunction with the event, the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County and Visit Hopkinsville are offering a free bus tour of Hopkinsville’s African American history, mostly on the east side of the city. Three tour times are available at 1:15 p.m., 3:15 p.m., or 4:15 p.m., and will load from the Boys & Girls Club.
