HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Animal Science students in the Christian County High School Agriculture Department had a unique, hands-on opportunity to aid in the birth of 13 piglets as part of their studies.

“These students are gaining valuable skills that go far beyond the classroom,” said a public statement from the CCHS Agriculture Department. Mr. Jacob Jaworski, an agriculture teacher at CCHS, led his class through the delivery process as part of their reproduction unit on March 25. This resulted in 13 precious pink piglets.

For learning purposes, students had a hand in the entire process which included assisting with the delivery, administering vaccinations, ear notching, and clipping teeth. The opportunity was done in conjunction with Tripple D Farms and David Wimpy.

Jaworski was a winner of a Bright Ideas Grant in October of 2025 for the Farrow and Grow project, which helped made this experience possible for students this school year. The grants provide funding for innovative classroom projects designed by CCPS employees, awarding up to $500 per project to help bring their creative and engaging ideas to life each year.

Students also aided in animal births last school year, with sheep being born in March of 2025. This was after the department was awarded $5,000 from the 2025 Agriculture Achiever Grant program, supporting the cost of a seven animals including a starter flock of Dorper sheep. Three of the new Dorper ewes each of which gave birth shortly after settling into the barn, where students also proved to be integral.
