HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville shared that Ninth Street from Main Street to Virginia Street will be closed on Oct. 30. This is due to the emergency demolition of the Blue Streak building.
Both directions of traffic on Ninth Street will be closed during this time, and motorists and pedestrians are advised to seek alternate routes. The closure will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to remain in effect until approximately 1 p.m., weather permitting.

The historic building was slated for emergency demolition on Oct. 28 during a special called meeting of the Hopkinsville City Council. This comes just over a week after the surrounding sidewalks were blocked off due to safety concerns stemming from a structural report, and two days after the vote.
Hopkinsville Fire Chief Steve Futrell previously explained that code enforcement moves quickly on demolition projects when it presents a hazard to public safety.
