HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The popular local water park will be opening Memorial Day weekend after closing early last season due to needed repairs.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation estimates 50,000 people will come through the park this summer. Rachel Sanders with parks and recreation said the scheduled repairs are going as planned, with the pipeline replacement happening in about a week. After those final repairs, they will begin to fill up the pools.

Sanders told Christian County Now that she loves to see the meaningful experiences created every summer at the water park. She believes that its small size and central location makes it a great local destination for families, while also attracting thousands of vistors from outside the city.

Funding through city council

Bluegrass Splash was a hot topic in Hopkinsville City Council at the beginning of the year as the needed funds were discussed in several meetings. During the final vote, local kids read letters to the council sharing their beloved experiences at the park. The $125,000 needed for repairs was granted, with work starting immediately.

The repairs included fixing a 20-foot section of leaking pipe and cracked support brackets on the slides, recalking on the slides, along with repairs to the pump house and slide pumps.

Bluegrass Splash will be open through Labor Day, giving them a 91 day season this year. Birthday party and event rentals, along job listings for the summer can be found on the Bluegrass Splash website.
