HOPKINSVILLE KY, (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville is expanding their teen center, with construction set to be completed in summer 2024.
The organization has received $1 million from the state of Kentucky to create a 2000-square-foot teen “FabLab.” This will double the space of the existing teen center, built in 2016, which currently holds around 25 people.
“We have outgrown it,” said Terrence Davis, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. “This additional space could give us room to double our numbers.”
The FabLab will give teens access to new technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking equipment, screen-printing and audio and video production in the content creation studio. “We hope the FabLab will give our teens greater access to technology and learn new skills that they can use in the 21 century workforce,” said Davis.
Along with the grant money, the club plans to redo their gym floor and add additional safety measures to the front entrance lobby.
Davis, who has been with the club since 2006, is excited for the plans to unfold. “This renovation is going to drastically change the way we serve our community and hopefully open new opportunities,” said Davis.
Construction is set to begin within the next month.
