OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The groundbreaking and construction of a new Buc-ee’s location in Oak Grove has been significantly delayed past the anticipated summer start, possibly being pushed back to 2026.
“The start date for Buc-ee’s has been pushed back to late this year, or possibly early next year,” said Mayor Jackie Oliver during the June 3 Oak Grove City Council meeting. “There are several things that need to happen in that area such as the intersection upgrades.”
Oliver told Christian County Now that plans include constructing multiple roundabouts and doing major work to surrounding roads. She clarified that Buc-ee’s will be able to start construction before the roads are complete, but plans have to be finalized with KYTC before they can move forward. “The state has to redo the entire exit ramp, and then Buc-ee’s has to move an entire city street.”
Buc-ee’s previously had its eye on the Interstate 24 corridor northwest of Nashville into Kentucky, and had been pursuing a 120-pump gas station and a 77,000-square foot building off Exit 1 in Clarksville. That fell through when the company couldn’t come to terms with the Tennessee Department of Transportation on site plans.
Previously estimated timeline
In September 2024, a Buc-ee’s representative announced during a city council meeting that they were going to construct a location in Oak Grove. This development is estimated to bring about 200 jobs and a surge in local tax revenue.
At the time of the announcement, Angela Janik, project coordinator with Buc-ee’s, shared that the massive convenience store and gas station would be located off of Exit 89 on Highway 115. She continued to say they would start construction once they had approvals from KYTC, aiming for a groundbreaking in 2025.
Months later in January 2025, Oak Grove Public Works Director Brian Ahart said that construction was anticipated to start by summer 2025, with an estimated opening date of fall 2026.
In May, Christian County Now reached out to Buc-ee’s representatives about a possible timeline for the groundbreaking. Media Coordinator Crissy Gonzales replied, “No comment at this time.”
