HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County High School has announced it has accepted the resignation of head football coach Ethan Atchley, effective immediately.

This announcement comes after the Colonels kicked off the season with a string of consistent losses, including a 55-0 loss against Mayfield in August, and a homecoming loss of 60-7 against Daviess County.

Atchley was brought on as head coach in January of 2024, previously having nine years of head coaching experience and an additional three years’ experience as a defensive coordinator. Prior to CCHS, Atchley served as defensive coordinator at Lafayette High School and Lexington Christian Academy before being promoted to head coach with Lexington Christian. As a head coach with the Eagles, he compiled a record of 46-18 (.719), which included four consecutive regional final appearances.

In a news release from Christian County Public Schools, it was shared that assistant CCHS football coach Kelly Myers, has been appointed as interim for the remainder of the season. According to CCPS, Myers brings more than two decades of coaching experience, highlighted by five state championship appearances, including a 2008 4A state title, and multiple playoff runs during his career in Tennessee. He has also been selected as a Nike Spark instructional coach and clinic speaker, sharing his expertise at national coaching events.
