HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Christian County Public Schools has announced a gift card drive to support Chase Pemberton, a 2020 graduate of Hopkinsville High School currently battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Chase is the son of Don and Laurie Pemberton. His mother Laurie serves as the Family Resource and Youth Services Center (FRYSC) Coordinator at Crofton Elementary.

Chase was diagnosed earlier this year and recently received the incredible news that he has been matched with a donor for a bone marrow transplant. In the coming days, Chase will be traveling to Houston, where he will remain for several months to receive treatment.

“As a former student and with his mom serving our schools, Chase has long been part of the CCPS family,” said Superintendent Chris Bentzel. “Supporting our staff members and their families is important to us. We also want to show Chase and his family that the community is standing with them during this challenging time.”

Given the nature of Chase’s condition and treatment plan, gift cards to places like Walmart, Target, DoorDash, UberEats, Zaxby’s, Chick-fil-A, or general Visa gift cards will be the most helpful to the family. Each month, the district will designate a “Chase-ing Victory” week for collection, and the cards will then be gathered and mailed to Chase and his mom, who will be staying with him as his caregiver.

Community members can drop off gift cards at the CCPS Central Office, 200 Glass Avenue, or at any Family Resource and Youth Services Center (FRYSC) at our schools. The first collection drive will take place Monday, September 15 through Friday, September 19.
