HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County Animal Shelter is busy keeping hearts and homes full this upcoming Valentine’s Day.
The shelter is hosting a Pet Remembrance Tree that allows anyone to purchase a heart for $5 to hang on the tree that they can decorate as they wish with animals they have loved and lost or currently have. People are welcome to bring pictures on their hearts if they would like, the shelter told Christian County Now.
All proceeds from the tree will go to help the animals at the shelter. “We hope that this becomes a beautiful way to honor everyone’s beloved pets,” said CCAS Director Melissa Goff.
CCAS is also hosting a pet speed dating event on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Guests will be able to meet and play with a pet for five minutes in hopes that a match will ‘spark.’ “We are really hoping that this will bring attention to some of the overlooked animals who are fantastic by nature but keep getting overlooked out in the kennels,” explains Goff. “With any luck it will get several animals matched into the right homes for people who love them.”
At the event, the shelter is allowing people to sign up to set up in the courtyard or lobby to sell food, candy or Valentine’s related items.
Currently, the animal shelter is full but no longer over capacity. “Our hope is that these events will get enough of our animals adopted into good homes and that we will have some wiggle room for incoming animals,” Goff said.
