HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Animal Shelter has currently reached capacity at their location on Russellville Road in Hopkinsville, which prevents them from taking in stray animals.

“We would like to ask that if it is not an absolute emergency that you please hold off on surrendering animals until we have been able to place some of the current animals,” said a public statement from the shelter. “We will gladly to courtesy posts to assist with rehoming them on our page to help you find them homes.”

In the meantime, they are seeing residents who would be interesting in fostering some available animals so they can make room for strays that will still be pouring in.

During the previous June 24 Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, Shelter director Melissa Goff shared their stats for the month of May. In this first month of the summer, they had 513 incoming animals, and 276 outgoing animals. She previously shared that they see a spike in incoming animals during the summer months and coordinate more adoption events around this time to encourage adoptions, such as their Dog Days of Summer in June.

Anyone looking to adopt a pet can visit the Christian County Animal Shelter at 2935 Russellville Road, go to the Christian County Animal Shelter Facebook page, or call 270-887-4175.
