HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the Christian County Fiscal Court meeting on Jan. 28, Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam read a proclamation declaring a local holiday in honor of James Cochran.

Although he was unable to attend the reading of the proclamation, Cochran was recognized for his 102nd birthday with Jan. 26 officially named James Cochran Day in Christian County. Cochran is a World War II Veteran who served in the United States Military as a radio operator starting in 1943.

While reading the proclamation, Gilliam shared that Cochran has lived in Kentucky for his entire life, having been born in Lynnville and spending the majority of his life in Hopkinsville, currently residing in Elizabethtown with family. He is well known in the area for starting Cornette’s Office Supply in Christian County years ago.

“I want to thank James Cochran on behalf of the County and to thank all our current service members for their service as well as to remember those who have fallen for us,” added Gilliam.
