HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Community members who are interested in learning more about the inner workings of law enforcement can join the free Citizen’s Sheriff Academy, which is returning again this summer. This program aims to foster stronger community relationships with an interactive experience.

“Our goal is to connect with the community we serve and help citizens gain a deeper understanding of our work,” said Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond. “Education leads to stronger partnerships, and this academy is a great way to build that bridge.”

The 12-hour program provides a behind the scenes look at the daily duties of deputies including investigative techniques, traffic stops, law enforcement tactics, and simulated court sessions, according to a news release from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.

The 20 selected participants will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays starting May 13 through May 29 from 6- 8 p.m. The program is open to county residents over the age of 18 who pass a background check. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Applications are available online at the CCSO website or can be picked up in person at 701 West Seventh Street in Hopkinsville.
